Eternal life in gift to mortal soul,
In fennel stalk, from god of gods to earth;
The father forethought in defiance stole
A human warmth of sacred Vesta’s hearth;
As rumbling dance of kindred laughter sparking,
Aglow by blaze of friend and foe in peace;
As twilight over milky clouds purpling,
Flaming eyes to chase the Golden Fleece;
It gave the thought to live and life to thought,
To free of chains and sixth of death with art;
But stolen grace brought frosting thunder rot,
Pandora’s blinding life to hope in heart;
With beating wind and hateful a control,
Eternal pain to drain the mortal soul.
